EtherTouch Introduces ASIC Chip for 3-D Sensors
User movement would drive current touch-sensitive devices

EtherTouch is introducing an advanced e-Sensing chip technology. With a wave of the finger, EtherTouch 3-D™ ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) could replace the computer mouse, touchpad, touch screen, cellphone keypad, or other traditional input devices. EtherTouch has refined capacitive sensing to track the movement of any object, particularly the human body, or material at significant distances.

With this new chip technology, a desktop computer display, for example, will track a user’s finger or hand as it passes through the sensing field from several inches away to several feet. The sensors convert the three-dimensional position (on the X, Y and Z axes) into a digital signal. A processor chip of any computer or electronic device then interprets the coordinates and direction and translates them into displayed cursor movements and object selection.
