Espial Group (Ottawa, Ontario, Canada), a provider of software solutions for TV, has introduced a modular, skinned application software for digital TVs. The Espial Evo delivers configurable on-screen capabilities in a streamlined, embedded package that is reportedly compatible with any TV platform or middleware. It has a built in ‘skin’ mechanism and support tools allowing the on-screen display to be personalized quickly, with no coding changes, the company reports. It includes applications that the company says will reduce the time to market and bill of materials cost of digital LCD, plasma, projection and CRT TVs to the U.S. It can be customized to allow branding across consumer electronic devices, including gaming-like transitions and effects.
Components include Evo Display, a skin-able On-Screen Display application including scalable menu system, configurable remote control-activated visual display and 708-B configuration fro DTV tuners; Evo Guide, a skin-able Electronic Program Guide application with basic now-and-next and grid-based, multi-day information; and Evo Viewer, an extended HTML and CableCard Content Viewer that supports the CableLabs requirement in the U.S. for CableCard content with extended tag and transition support for other managed content browsing.
