Universal Display and Seiko Epson Announce Partnership
Joint development agreement to create PHOLED displays

Universal Display Corp., a developer of organic light emitting diode (OLED) technologies for flat panel displays, lighting and other opto-electronic applications, announced the signing of a multi-year technology development program with Seiko Epson Corporation. The program will focus on the development of technology for the future production of PHOLED™ phosphorescent OLED displays by inkjet printing.

During this multi-year program, the two companies will work to apply Universal Display’s PHOLED technology to the high-speed inkjet printing process developed by Epson. This collaborative effort is designed to facilitate the low-cost production of large-area OLED displays in the future.

PHOLEDs have been shown to be up to four times more efficient than other traditional OLED technologies, which is key for lower power consumption, less heat generation and longer operating lifetimes, Universal Display reports.

Seiko Epson Corporation, which focuses on the development and commercialization of inkjet printing technology, has been leveraging Universal’s technology to develop high-speed, inkjet printing for OLEDs.
